Plex not recognizing new RIPs

Post by CharlyTheSneaky »

So I’ve got TrueNAS scale and I've been using MakeMKV since quite some time (like 2-3 months), I have created a Plex dataset and all of my folders and files within the dataset work perfectly as I’m the owner and granted full access. The previous MakeMKV files worked as intended.

Image

the “@owner” is me, I censored my name. Although I added new files (and folders) yesterday and since that I’m not able to move, copy and rename them since “I need permissions”

Image

It says “You need permission to execute this action (renaming said file) and that I need to ask for access” even though I am connected the right way to my SMB share.
Image

I can’t even access some of my folders, it can be translated as "Windows can’t get access to [my folder]"Also, “fun thing”, my Plex doesn’t recognize nor scans for the new files

To give new info : When I look at my files already existing have my permissions existing already, but the new ones have no user permissions

Image

So it says permission to write and read (old file)

This one doesn’t (new file)

I've tried going in the TrueNAS forum but to no avail so I'm trying to see with you guys if it could be the fault on MakeMKV (which I doubt), I've also noticed that some are encoded with AVC & HEVC and they work perfectly but my new RIPs don't and it's quite annoying.

To add more details, everytime I RIP, I do it to my SSD, then transfer it to my SMB share on my NAS and it worked before so I'm quite troubled as to why it doesn't work anymore => When I RIP directly to my TrueNAS SMB share the permissions are good but it's still not recognized

Thanks for any help given in advance

This 100% seems like an issue with how permissions are setup on TrueNAS. You can try & confirm by attempting to create a .txt document - you'll get the same error confirming that it isn't related to new rips. You're showing the Datasets TAB, instead of the Shares TAB, who there are additional complications to point out what went wrong.

For any chance to help you, go to the Shares tab, find the SBM share that isn't work, there'll be a three dot icon that goes to 'Share ACL' those options setup the MAX level of permissions. After that there is a shield icon 'Edit Filesystem ACL', there you'll manually set the permissions by owner, group, user, other, and mask. 'Mask' should basically match the highest level of access, owner is the owner, and then you fill in the rest as needed. 'Apply permissions recursively' will then apply your set permissions for every file/folder in the dataset.

I hated settings these up & I won't go picture by picture to set it up with you because it is a pain in the ass. My recommendation would be to manually setup a new share by whatever gets it working for you in filesystem acl, then go to whatever shares aren't working & match the settings between the two. I sincerely mean it when I say 'good luck'. Youtube videos might help, but it is a crapshoot on how close they'll match the latest TrueNAS UI.

Okay, thanks for the heads up, yeah ACL are a pain in the ass for sure, I wanted to make sure it wasn't MakeMKV's
I will try to find the answer to my issue and I'll come back with the solution in case someone has the same issue,

Don't worry, I completely understand you don't want to give me the step by step, since it's more of a "this your TrueNAS version"
Anyways, thanks for the advice.
